2017 Mazda6 GS Review
The 2017 Mazda 6 GS, the Economical Four-Door Sedan with the Soul of a Sports Car.
Mazda cars and SUVs have always been perceived as more exciting and enjoyable to drive than the bland offerings from their direct competitors. And from sports car to sedan to SUV, not only do Mazda vehicles drive differently, they look different – distinct, bold, instantly recognisable.
For example, the 2017 Mazda6 GS mid-sized sedan continues to redefine the notion that driving pleasure needn’t be comprised for practicality or efficiency.
Long regarded by automotive enthusiast publications as one of the best-handling, most driver-centric vehicles in its segment, the Mazda6 GS. The 2017 Mazda6 features the first application of Mazda’s all-new G-Vectoring Control (GVC) in North America. GVC is the first in a series of new SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS technologies that provide integrated control of the engine, transmission, chassis and body to enhance the car's Jinba Ittai -- the Japanese term for the close interaction of “horse and rider as one.”
A Mazda6 GS equipped with GVC provides more precise control of the sedan, which its engineers have reduced the need for constant steering corrections while driving, resulting in increased confidence and control whether in a day-to-day commute or more spirited driving on a curving rural road.
All 2017 Mazda6 models feature the same 2.5 L four-cylinder SKYACTIV®-G engine that’s rated at 184 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 185 lb-ft torque at 3,250 rpm.
Uncommon in cars in its class is the available SKYACTIV®-MT 6-speed manual transmission. Standard on the Mazda6 GS is the SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with the manual-shift mode, Drive Selection switch and paddle shifters.
The SKYACTIV®-G engine delivers fuel City/Highway fuel economy of 9.8/6.9 for the manual transmission and 9.1/6.7 for the automatic transmission (L/100 km).*
The 2017 Mazda6 also features greatly enhanced sound reduction measures. From improved door seals to tighter tolerance between panels, thicker front glass, and sound insulation materials added to the underbody, rear console, headliner, and doors, the goal was for the Mazda6 an interior experience more like that found in a luxury car.
2017 Mazda6 GS models offer a wide range of standard equipment.
On the interior, Canadian winters have been accounted for with adjustable heated front and rear seats with a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and power-operated heated door mirrors.
Other interior features include the MAZDA CONNECT® infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen display and HMI Commander Switch. It also features steering-wheel-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls and also functions as the display for the wide-angle rearview camera. The system also features two USB ports and one auxiliary audio input.
Available only on the Mazda6 GS is the optional Luxury Package which includes leather-trimmed upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support, and a power glass moonroof with interior sunshade, tilt-up ventilation and one-touch open feature.
Safety never takes a back seat at Mazda, and you’ll find the Mazda6 features all the latest safety features, including adjustable intermittent rain-sensing wipers, advanced Keyless Entry System with a panic alert, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring System (ABSM). To keep track of vehicles hiding in your blond spots, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) to warn you of oncoming cars as you’re backing up, and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) that helps reduce the severity of read-end collisions.
And your new Mazda6 GS comes with Unlimited – the only warranty program of its kind in Canada. Mazda Unlimited features unlimited mileage for our 3-YEAR New Vehicle, 3-YEAR Roadside Assistance, 5-YEAR Powertrain and 7-YEAR Anti-Perforation warranties.
You can talk all day about available product features, but when it comes to any Mazda, and in particular the Mazda6, you need to drive the car to really appreciate its numerous attributes. And the best way to do that is to call Yarmouth Mazda or make an appointment online to schedule a test drive.
