At Mazda, things are done simply and without unnecessary frills, with the same sense of delicacy found among major luxury brands. The 2026 CX-30 is a perfect example of this philosophy. It's a model with character, yet nothing about it feels overdone. Its naming is understated, and its interior finish is refined. Under the hood, the CX-30 delivers a balance and level of dynamism that few vehicles in this segment can claim to achieve. In short, the Mazda CX-30 is a sophisticated and modern vehicle that sits somewhere between mainstream and luxury models.

The Japanese automaker's small SUV brings a few updates for 2026, including a Kuro Edition that features striking black accents. Mazda has also revised the suspension and rear differential, taking Canada's climate conditions into account in order to improve performance throughout the year.

Trim Levels and Pricing

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 lineup consists of six trim levels, starting with the GX, which serves as the entry-level model. It carries a very aggressive starting price of $29,300. At this price point, buyers benefit from generous standard equipment and advanced technology, particularly when it comes to safety features. Next up is the GS trim at $32,200, which adds 18-inch wheels and a more sophisticated appearance. The GS Kuro follows at $34,400. The GT trim starts at $38,200. For $40,600, the GT Turbo becomes available and, as its name suggests, adds a turbocharged engine to the mix. Finally, the GT Kuro sits at the top of the range with a price of $41,350.

Segment and Competition

The CX-30 is often compared to models such as the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross, which makes sense from a pricing standpoint. However, the CX-30's specifications and overall driving experience place it closer to vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3. As a result, the Mazda CX-30 isn't quite a mainstream subcompact SUV, nor is it a true luxury model—it exists somewhere in between.

Competitors: Buick Envista, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro, Kia Seltos, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi RVR, Nissan Kicks, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Corolla Cross, Volkswagen Taos

Design and Technology

Unlike many manufacturers that try to stand out with flashy colors, two-tone finishes, or questionable accessories, Mazda opted for simplicity and elegance in the design of the CX-30—and it was undoubtedly the right choice. The model exudes a presence that few vehicles in this size class can match

.

Inside, the CX-30's cabin is both understated and refined, two qualities that give the impression of being behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle. I particularly appreciate the shape and orientation of the dashboard, which clearly puts the focus on the driver. In fact, it almost feels like sitting in a sporty car, something I truly enjoy in the Japanese SUV.

From a technology standpoint, the Mazda CX-30 leaves little to be desired. That said, its infotainment system does require a short learning curve, but this remains one of the very few criticisms that can be directed at the model.

Performance

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 offers two powertrain options, starting with the familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This engine is known for its robustness and long-term reliability. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive comes standard.

The second option is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivering up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using premium fuel. These are figures typically associated with luxury brands. Here again, a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive are part of the package.

Weak Points

Mazda's multimedia experience still isn't quite optimal, and additional rear-seat space would be welcome.

Strong Points

The CX-30 is a capable, comfortable, and well-equipped vehicle right out of the box. It has a strong presence on the road, and its design ages gracefully. It's also fuel-efficient and offers an excellent value for money.

Signature Element

The Mazda CX-30 is an unpretentious model with genuine strengths, successfully meeting both the needs and the whims of the vast majority of buyers.

Final Word

The Mazda CX-30 has many strong arguments working in its favor. While it may not be the flashiest vehicle in its segment, it remains a safe bet on all fronts. As a bonus, it offers one of the best warranties on the market, with a three-year bumper-to-bumper coverage and unlimited mileage. The CX-30 is a vehicle that truly has everything going for it.
